Join Charles & Tanya Lafferty for an evening field walk and discussion of year 2 of their grant funded silvopasture project.
What you'll see and learn about:
- Progress in season 2 of their NE SARE (Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education) grant funded 2-year project involving silvopastured pigs.
- Use of pigs and cattle to clear invasives such as multiflora rose.
- Chickens vs. turkeys?
- CJ's lessons learned on acquiring grant funding to accelerate farm operation improvements.
John Hopkins, technical advisor, will provide updates on this two-year project. A professional forester and grass farmer, Hopkins has 35 years experience developing pastures and silvopastures at Forks Farm. His role has been to document outcomes and make recommendations for managing the woodlot to maximize solar gain and forage production.
